We have an exciting new opportunity for a Landscape Architect to join our project specific team for a large 57km infrastructure project in the South West of England.

Ground Control is working with National Grid under a design and build contract to deliver the landscaping for this important network upgrade project.

What you’ll achieve;

Working within this role you will be key in delivering great design solutions and detail for our customers, taking proactive ownership to overcome design constraints and deliver a great customer experience for our clients. You will be a key member of a project specific team that work together in progressing design & planning requirement submissions in line with the Development Consent Order. You will gain experience working within the National Infrastructure Planning system through this nationally significant infrastructure project.

This can be based nationwide from home with occasional national travel to the project as well as our offices in London and also Billericay in Essex for team meetings.

Key responsibilities will include:

Delivering designs for various work stages and phases of the project for discharge & approval of planning submissions in line with the Development Consent Oder
Producing a range of landscape drawings & reports for all work stages from feasibility through planning up to the handover across the various project stages
Delivering a high quality of professional service on time and within budget
Producing schemes that meet the clients brief
Attending sites and carrying out landscape appraisals & works route walkovers
Working pro-actively and developing strong relationships with the team and wider construction and professional services team
Liaising or responding to main contractors in requesting & confirming information received
Progress reporting to the to team leader on status of work stages
Who are we looking for?

Within this role, there is an opportunity to play a key role in the growth and development of the Landscape Architecture team and therefore we welcome applications from ambitious individuals who can demonstrate high quality consultancy experience and a proven ability for winning work, retaining clients and delivering a great customer experience for our clients.

Ground Control is seeking highly motivated industry leading professionals who can demonstrate a blend of technical design expertise, along with proven project management skills and sector experience.

The candidate will ideally have some, but not necessarily all, of the following :

Chartered status and relevant degree / master’s degree in Landscape Architecture with min 5 years’ experience
Strong design skills and be highly proficient in AutoCAD and Adobe software packages. Knowledge and skills in GIS and SketchUp are desirable.
Have solid plant knowledge of commonly used trees, shrubs and hardy perennials and show a willingness to learn.
Experience and solid knowledge on preparing planning and technical drawings for hard landscaping.
Have strong knowledge of UK legislations
An effective and confident communicator or (both written and oral) to a broad audience, with the ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders both internal and external.
An engaging and approachable manner, with a natural ability to problem solve, provide positive and realistic solutions with a commercial mindset.
Ability to prepare and input into detailed project programming.
Sector experience with a sound understanding of landscape planning (Development Consent Orders) surrounding nationally important infrastructure projects.
An ability to think strategically, conceptually, and analytically while maintaining a focus on wide-ranging or long-term implications.
Experience of working in design and build environment or contract delivery stages of a project.
Experienced in preparing LVIA, feasibility studies and mitigation strategies.
Experience at drafting planning compliant reports (skills in both technical report writing and in the preparation of graphic material are required).
